Download photos to a frame
Downloading content directly to a Nixplay frame is not typically possible, as frames are designed to automatically load content from the cloud based on the subscription plan linked to the account the frame is registered under. Instead of storing photos permanently, frames use intelligent caching and content cycling to refresh images automatically, ensuring content stays up to date.
We understand that some users are using the frame's Offline Mode to bypass upcoming subscription plan changes. While this may allow some or all* content to remain on the frame, it comes with important limitations that should be carefully considered before using this approach.
Please note that we will not delete any content as part of the subscription plan changes. However, if you’d like to keep a local copy, you can download individual photos, entire albums, or all uploaded content to your phone or computer at any time.
Additionally, shared content does not count towards the recipient’s storage quota. This means that if two people each share content with someone else who owns a Nixplay frame - one sharing 1GB of photos and the other 500MB the frame owner can still enjoy all 1.5GB of content using a free Basic account. Since the storage quota only applies to content uploaded directly to an account, shared content remains accessible regardless of the plan the recipient is on so long as the content owner is within their plan limits.
How Offline Mode Works:
Offline Mode is designed to ensure cached content continues to play when a frame temporarily loses connection to Wi-Fi. It is not intended as a workaround and will prevent future frame updates and stop new content from being automatically sent while the frame remains disconnected from the network.
We are aware that some users are intentionally disabling Wi-Fi after assigning content to the frame to force Offline Mode to bypass upcoming changes and quotas. If you choose to do so, please review ‘Things to Keep in Mind’ below to fully understand the implications.
How to Assign Content to a Frame:
1. Open the Nixplay App and go to Albums.
2. Assign images to albums before sending them to a frame.
3. Click the Frames tab and select the frame you want to send content to.
4. Click the three dots in the top right and choose Assign Albums.
5. Choose the albums you want to send to the frame, this will notify the frame that new content is available and trigger a re-sync.
6. If you want to check if the frame has received a photo(s), navigate to the Gallery on the frame.
Things to Keep in Mind
This approach is not recommended, and by choosing to use it, you acknowledge the following considerations:
-
Shared content does not count toward your storage quota - only the uploader’s storage is affected.
-
Nixplay frames automatically manage storage. If your total content exceeds the available storage, older content will be replaced when the frame is connected to Wi-Fi.
-
Reconnecting to Wi-Fi will trigger an automatic sync, including software updates, account verification, and content compliance checks. Offline Mode will be disabled, and any content exceeding your plan limits may no longer be accessible.
Important Notes:
While Offline Mode is a built-in feature, its effectiveness as a workaround depends on implementation before April 21, 2025, when Terms of Service updates take effect, and Wi-Fi remains disabled.
- Your content is not being deleted. Regardless of current or upcoming subscription plan changes, all uploaded content will remain stored in the Nixplay cloud.
- Storage limitations still apply. If the available storage on your frame is smaller than your cloud storage, not all content can be transferred. For example: If your frame has 1GB of available space but your cloud account holds 2GB of photos, only a portion will fit.
- Offline mode only works when there is no Wi-Fi or it's disabled. If the frame reconnects to Wi-Fi, it will automatically sync, checking for software updates, content changes, user account verification, and subscription status. This will disable Offline Mode, and any content exceeding your plan limits may no longer be accessible.
Related Questions
We've included a selection of related questions below, you can also check out the help section, or upcoming changes FAQs
Will my photos be deleted if I don’t subscribe?
No. Nixplay will not delete your content from the cloud, regardless of your subscription plan. However, with the free Basic Plan, there are limits on how much content can be shared with others or displayed on frame paired to your own account.
Why can’t I store all my photos permanently on my frame?
The software on Nixplay frames manage local image caching and pulling content from the cloud. This allows images to be loaded and displayed automatically without being limited by internal storage.
What happens if I reconnect my frame to Wi-Fi after using Offline Mode?
If the frame reconnects to Wi-Fi, it will automatically sync, verifying your account, checking for software updates, and ensuring content complies with your current plan.
Offline Mode will be disabled, and any content exceeding your current subscription limits may no longer be accessible.
Can I Use Multiple Accounts?
A Nixplay frame can only be linked to one account at a time, but it can receive shared content from multiple accounts. Shared content does not count toward the recipient’s storage limits—only the uploader’s storage is affected.
Nixplay does not restrict the use of multiple accounts, as long as each account is created with a valid email address.
Note: As part of our compliance requirements, we have a continual email verification process in place.
What are my options if I want more features and flexibility?
